You have worked across national teams, Premier League environments, and multiple professional leagues. How have these different football cultures shaped your coaching identity and leadership approach?

Working across national teams, the Premier League, and various professional leagues has taught me adaptability and perspective. Each environment carries its own philosophy, pressure, and rhythm. From the Premier League, I learned the importance of intensity and attention to detail. From national teams, I understood the value of representing identity and pride. From Turkish clubs, I experienced the balance between passion and tactical discipline. All these experiences combined have shaped me into a coach who can lead diverse squads while maintaining a clear football identity.

All these experiences combined have shaped me into a coach who can lead diverse squads while maintaining a clear football identity.

Your career includes both head coach and assistant roles at the highest level. How do these different perspectives influence the way you lead a team and make decisions as a head coach today?

Being both a head coach and an assistant has given me a complete view of leadership. As a head coach, you carry full responsibility. As an assistant, you understand the importance of collaboration, detail, and supporting the overall vision. Today, I combine both perspectives. I make clear and decisive decisions, but I also value input from my staff and create an environment where everyone contributes to the team’s success.

You are known for promoting dominant and modern football, often using systems such as 4 3 3 and 4 2 3 1. What are the key principles behind your playing philosophy, and how do you adapt it to different squads and competitions?

My philosophy is based on proactive and dominant football. Systems such as 4 3 3 or 4 2 3 1 provide structure, but the core principles remain the same. I want my teams to be well organized, attack with purpose, and control the game both in possession and without the ball. At the same time, flexibility is essential. Every squad has different strengths, and my role is to maximize those qualities while staying aligned with the demands of modern football.

Having worked extensively in youth development, including at Galatasaray and within the Turkish National Team structure, how do you approach the integration of young players into professional first teams?

Developing young players has always been one of my greatest passions. During my time at Galatasaray and within the Turkish National Team, I worked with many players who later became top professionals. My approach is gradual. First, I prepare them mentally and physically. Then I integrate them step by step into the first team environment. Players such as Arda Turan, Caner Erkin, Burak Yılmaz, Selçuk İnan, Emre Çolak, Mert Günok, and Merih Demiral demonstrate that with the right guidance and structure, young talent can succeed at the highest level.

You have worked with some of the most respected coaches in Turkish and international football. What are the most important lessons you have taken from these collaborations, and how have they influenced your own methodology?

Working with top level coaches has been extremely valuable for my development. From Fatih Terim, I learned the importance of leadership and passion. From Martin Jol, I gained insight into tactical detail and the intensity of the Premier League. From Kheïreddine Madoui, I learned discipline and resilience. From George Hagi, creativity and attacking thinking. From Okan Buruk, the modern evolution of Turkish football. From Chris Van Puyvelde, structured methodology in player development.

All these experiences have helped me build my own coaching identity, combining tactical intelligence, psychological awareness, and a strong focus on developing players.
